Barbeque!

On our last night in Saigon we were finally feeling completely brave and comfortable and ventured down the road from the Rex to have dinner at the newly relocated Texas BarBQ. We had heard about this restaurant from other traveling families but, previously, it was a ways from the hotel so people had to be driven there. A few days before, though, we passed a banner that said something about Texas moving to a new location. Dani, of course, had a picture of the banner, so we tracked it down and realized it was right down the street! Ribs! Texas ribs! Right down the street!

We passed a lot of places where we would have liked to have gone if we had more time. Although I was a bit done with Saigon, we definitely could have done with a few more days of just hang about the city time.

An irish pub!

One of the few Indian restaurants we found when searching a few nights before. Within walking distance!

Ummm. Those are NOT glasses filled with ice made from the local water supply. Really. We would never condone such foolish behavior.

Ummm. We just put the yummy soda into the glass with the yummy ice for the photo opportunity and then we dutifully drank our bottled water.

Bordering on delirium, in a semi-daze.

The new Texas BarBQ was apparently much smaller than the old one, but it was very nice. The restaurant was opened by an American from Dallas named Wayne. We spent a while talking with Wayne about Vietnam and what it's like to be an American running a business (foreigners can't own businesses in Vietnam--his Vietnamese wife owns the business) in Vietnam. I learned a lot from what he told us.

We had heard about how the Vietnamese women would take the babies while people ate, and this saint of a woman was the only person who graciously did this for us. Wayne is sitting in the background with his mystery drink.

RIBS! I had gotten a pulled pork sandwich, thinking that I was going to have to eat holding Norah. We got the sandwich, a half-slab of KC-style ribs, with sides of cole slaw, mashed potatoes and green beans. DROOOOOOOL. I'm a little ashamed to say (considering all the mocking that I did of people who came to Vietnam and wouldn't eat the Vietnamese food and only eat KFC) that this was the most satisfying meal at this point in Vietnam.

There is a fairly high-end clothing store near the Rex. Versace, etc. We didn't stop for anything since, you know, we already have the entire Fall Versace line. Riiiiiiiiight.

Our last shot of the Rex.

There is a beautiful courtyard outside the Rex that was constantly filled with people coming to have their picture taken with this statue of Ho Chi Minh. This man is seriously revered in this country, understandably.

If you keep your eyes peeled you can always spot a gecko somewhere on the wall or ceiling.

Relaxing back at the room.

Did you also get an ice cream sundae? Did you guys get a chance to try Sushi night at the Rex? My sister-in-law travelled with us and would not let use touch sushi when we were there.
