For all that have BTDT...

For all the adoptive parents out there reading this. What is the 1 thing that you feel you needed while traveling that you did not pack? I have 4 suggested packing lists that when combined are well over 4 pages long. One would think that EVERYTHING would be covered but I am sure that there is one thing you wished you had brought that did not make it into the suitcase. Please comment and let me know! Thanks. D.

I wish we would have packed a couple of changes of clothes for ourselves and all necessary toiletries in our carry on as we did not get our baggage until day 4 of our journey! We remembered all the stuff for little man, but not us. Also, I would bring clothes one size smaller than you think she will be- the measurements and estimates can be deceiving!

I wish we would have taken long sleeved shirts and long pants for Ben. I took a ton of summer-y stuff, but he was unaccustomed to the air conditioning and really needed long sleeves and long pants. And it's hard to find warm clothes there b/c it's so hot! Also, SAFETY PINS were a life saver b/c Ben is so skinny none of his pants would stay up! It sounds silly, but I'm telling you, we were so glad we had them. And I absolutely second Karen's recommendation on clothing size. Ben was 25 lbs and almost 34 inches tall and he ended up in size 12 - 18 mos clothes. The 24 month and 2T stuff was WAY too big.

Long cotton pants and long-sleeved onesies were and would have been a life saver! Chloe had severe eczema and couldn't stop scratching. I would have also taken some ALL free & clear laundry soap to wash out not-quite-dirty laundry in the hotel sinks. I'm sure it would have been a pain to dry and everything, but would have really helped with the skin issues. Not all kids have them, but they're pretty common.

Ditto what Karen said about packing the carry on--you don't need that added stress at that point in the journey!

Someone recommended to me bringing baby clothes in the size you think she will wear, one size smaller, and one size bigger. I was glad I listened to that one.

Happy Packing!!!
