Best Valentines Day Ever

For dinner last night Hue took us and the other family out for a good Vietnamese dinner.  When we got there a woman came over and said that where we were sitting was Vietnamese food only, and that if we wanted western food then we'd need to go over to the other side of the restaurant.  Whaaaatever.  We can get western food at home.  (Although one thing that that has been confirmed by this trip is that the food that we get at "Vietnamese" restaurants back home are definitely not completely authentic.)  Dani got a prawn curry and I got some grilled beef--one sata style (satay) and the other with a red wine sauce.  It's definitely interesting to see the French influences here in Vietnam, like how Dani's big (and I mean BIG) bowl of curry came with little slices of french bread to dip into the sauce, as in for sopping purposes.  The Pepsi tasted different too; more like coke.  And the deep fried sticky rice that I kept pilfering from the other family's plate was really good, just not as sweet as the sticky rice back home.

The restaurant was completely open-air and there wasn't a bad seat in the house, with everything overlooking the Saigon River.  (By the way, most people do still refer to this city as Saigon, if only because it's shorter and easier to say.  You'll mostly see Ho Chi Minh City in official documents, newspapers, etc.)

It's really been amazing how well-behaved Norah has been so far.  I'm sure it's all an act, but we're definitely enjoying it while it lasts.
